The Art-Assist Device can improve circulation up to 300% in legs that have arterial disease that is either too advanced or not amenable for surgery or angioplasty or in patients who are not fit for any intervention. This device gives a new ray of hope to these unfortunate patients who can save their limbs and enjoy the benefits of this machine without the risk of any surgery.
This machine works on the principle of filling ink in a fountain pen. It uses two cuffs – one on the foot and the other at the calf level that inflate suddenly and sequentially, expelling blood from the venous compartment thereby emptying it. The pressure is slowly released after a few seconds so that blood is gradually sucked into the venous compartment across the diseased and occluded arteries. It helps develop collateral circulation allowing the wounds to heal, improves the walking (claudication) distance.
Patients are advised daily two hour sittings for a period of 1-3 months or more depending on the benefit obtained.
